This may have been answered before. It may also be a stupid idea but here goes. I was talking with somebody the other day that suggested he dumps his black water tank into the sewer clean out at his home. Assuming a city sewer system, any thoughts or suggestions?

I think it depends on your particular clean out connection. Should be able to get whatever you might need at a local hardware store.

There may be restrictions against putting extra stuff into a municipal sewer. At our stick and brick we get a letter every year from water and sewer with rates and rules. One of the rules is that you cannot dump into the sewer other than the household connection, and they specifically list portable toilets and rv holding tanks. However, unless you have a really nosy neighbor that hates your guts, I doubt whether anyone would even notice.

When I owned my home in Colorado Springs, a couple years ago I did just what you suggested. The city does have an ordinance against an rv connection but not against a clean out port. So I put a cleanout in my garage. It was the only place I could easily get to the 4" sewer drain in the wall coming from the upstairs to the lower level.

I already have a 4" clean out in my yard near the curb so I should be able to hook up to that.

Around here you can only have a household connection, but unlimited "clean outs". Problem for me is that the sewer runs on the opposite side of the house from the RV pad so I can't use it.

Mine is also but I can move it to that side of the yard, at least to clean the tanks out.

I have done it with a macerator pump. Flowjet about $230 on amazon.

I also pump 86 feet into my bother-in-laws septic tank through a cleanout in front of the tank.

Just make sure the discharge hose doesn't come loose. I speak from experience!

Have done it using only the standard fittings, NOTE: in some cases you may need to pick up a special fitting, some not.

As to putting "Extra stuff in the municipal sewer".. I look at it this way.

IF you do it right (Do not add any noxicious chemicals like tank deorderant to your black tank) and only use water and.. Well, what you normally put in the toilet at home into the black tank, and water and what you normally drop down the sink or shower in the gray tank,, Then you are not puting any "Foreigen stuff" in the city sewer, Just what you'd have put in if you'd stayed home.

Now if you use that bottle of preservative the dealer gave you when you bought the rig.. (Mine is still wrapped in plastic, 7 years now and I've not broken its seal) Naughty you.

But #1, #2, Water, Dish soap, Bath detergent and the stuff the soaps/detergents normally wash into the sewer is.. What you normally wash into the sewer.
