Blowout video and suggestions
I got this link in an email from another RV forum. It's video of a Class A having a blowout on the interstate.
There are also some tips on what to do if you have a blowout.

That was hard to watch, hopefully the driver and others inside didn't get hurt too badly.
I know this can happen at anytime, so i read the article in an attempt to learn something valuable. Only thing, and even though it was explained in the article, i just don't think i'd speed up. This just seems counter intuitive so i'm pretty sure my reaction, even if i thought speeding up was a good idea, would be to let off the gas, hold on tight, and try to ride it out.
Of course the video didn't show the speed the MH was traveling. But seeing it pass the camera so quickly, it looked to be traveling faster than it should have been. A blow out is a blowout but there's a good chance things would have been different if he/she hadn't been going so fast.

I thought that speeding up with a blowout would be hard to do too.

Speeding up isn't what you actually do. You step on the gas and this will assist in stability and getting control of the situation, then you can start slowing down. Yes you might add 1 or 2 mph, but it isn't a big speed up.

The concept of flooring the accelerator when this happens has to do with force vectors. When the tire blows, there is a force trying to pull the coach sideways towards the blown tire. By flooring the accelerator, you add a small amount of additional force in the forward direction. This helps to counteract the sideways force which the blown tire is exerting on the coach.
You don't actually accelerate, you just floor the accelerator long enough to get fully in the loop and ready to bring the coach to a stop. Then let off the gas and brake GENTLY to bring the coach to a stop.
The absolute WORST thing you can do is slam on the brakes. That will add to the force trying to pull you sideways into the blown tire and you will end up in the ditch.

Blowout video and suggestions
I know a few of us including myself have had a front tire blow out,its they loudest scariest thing. Your natural instinct is to slam on brakes, I let off the gas and luckily was going up hill so it slowed down fairly fast on its on,a whole lot faster than my heart. Then you have the mess to deal with so for those that have not experienced one you don't want to.

I have three things to warn of or protect after a blowout.
1. TPMS
2. Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer (also helps with drift keeping the steering centered)
3. Tyron system- prevents the tire from leaving the rim (if the blowout doesn't totally destroy the tire).
The first two I purchased and installed myself, the third was on the coach when I bought it (and the most expensive!)
After seeing the news of a recent bus crash where a blowout caused the bus to veer into a bridge abutment and kill 4, I'm glad I have all three.

This one was a couple days ago.
Speed is a large part of the equation.

I've watched several RV tire blow out videos lately, and it appears in each one, as if the motorhome, with car in tow, is booking pretty well!
I would suspect the odds of having a blowout rise significantly as speed increases. Staying 55-60 makes extreme sense to me. If you are passing other vehicles you are more than likely exceeding those speeds. Slow down.

I can totally floor the accelerator on my DP, and it still accelerates fairly slowly. And before someone with a "big 600hp" chime in that my 380hp is under powered... the HP to Weight ratio and torque play a big role in acceleration, and I'm right in there with the big boys on that.
