Attn: owners of TruCenter Steering Controls model number TC35270 and TC35160

Automatic Equipment Manufacturing Company(maker of Blue Ox products)has initiated a safety recall (# 06E-003) of the Blue Ox TruCenter models TC35270 and TC35160. The affected units are further identified by serial numbers that begin with the first four digits of 1005,1105,and 1205.

Automatic Equipment will exchange the unit as soon as units are available at no cost to you. If you have had your vehicle repaired prior to receipt of this notice and incurred costs, you may be eligible for reimbursement.

All TruCenters affected by this RECALL must be returned for evaluation and disposal.

Contact the company's Customer Care Dept. for a Return Product Authorization number and further information on this recall at 402-385-3051 or Toll Free at 888-425-5382.

I was told the mounting brackets (specific to your chassis) do NOT need to be removed and returned, just the TruCenter itself. They will mail you a shipping label that allows you to return the unit at no cost out of pocket. ED

It's good to know about the recall, but what is the problem? I've been contemplating getting the TruCenter.

The basic problem, as reported on RV.net, is some Tru Centers have apparently locked up in hard right turns (fully extended). I had returned my Tru Center for repairs (due to something caused by an alignment mechanic) and Blue Ox will not return it to me. They told me they have a redesigned unit but it is being thoroughly tested. They also said no Tru Centers will be available (for sale or replacement) until April or May.

Terry, fine looking Dutch Star!!

Hi Terry ! According to the recall letter from which I was quoting/paraphrasing in the original post, the problem is : "The presence of foreign material can cause the tubes to gall and eventually bind together. This could cause a loss of driver steering ability and can result in a vehicle crash without warning." ED

Only few people have it, and it shows appreciation for value received. The content of the forums which if used properly has saved people both time and money and the "contributor" just wants to show that appreciation by making a small statement. Although this Karma title hasn't been aggressively solicited as in the past, it's still a nice thing to have.
