Book For Making Repairs ?

This forum is really great for helping everyone with their problems.

A lot of people here have already had the same problem before, so they already know a solution.

But, are there any books that you can purchase that help you troubleshoot problems?

If so, where would you find them?

I’m not talking about a specific MH brand. Just a book that might be general enough to give you a basic idea as to how something is supposed to work, so that you would have an idea as to how to go about fixing the problem.

Print is mostly dead, Your best option is Google and if Google does not find it in the first page. Then chances are it is not Google, but your search words,Make/ model, keep it simple.

Also split your searches 50/50 text, then select images, that may get you where you need to go faster if you are an image based learner VS text learner.

I find solutions quickest by 70/30 images VS text.

Yes, online info is excellent, but if you want to carry a book for backup when you don't have a signal, you might try "Trailer Life's RV Repair & Maintenance Manual" by Bob Livingston. I have the 4th Edition.
You can buy it on line, or can pick one up at Camping World. From memory, it was about $25 or so.

Moxxi,
Yes, there are books for "General RV Repair". You can find one or two at, I hate to say it but, "Camping World" and, other sources. They are for the most part, REALLY, REALLY general. And todays coaches, are for the most part, much more complicated in just about all components and aspects. So much of what's inside these rolling gymnasiums is computer controlled now. As has been stated, the internet is pretty much the way of the world. For many of us, fixing things has been a way of life. Adapting any and all those acquired skills and talents to fit RV fixing, is just something we just eased into when we bought our first one(s).

But, learning about them is really not all that hard. There's a mountain of knowledge on this forum from folks who are right there, willing to jump in and help. But, none of us can help you while you're on the road, with no i-net and cell phone towers near by. So, books sometimes, even in today's world of complicated RVs, might possibly get you out of a jamb.

Try Helm manuals.

I suspect that may be something only available to Honda dealers. Have you checked with a dealer to see if they will provide one?

You can subscribe to AllData for that service manual info. It cost about $19.95/yr for the first car then gets cheaper if you add more.
I use it - still not as good as the factory service manual but if that's all you can get access to, it will get the job done.

Ours is a '94 Flair on a P 30 chassis. I didn't have any problem finding a P 30 manual for that year on eBay. I also found a "general" manual there. All the original manuals and paperwork were with the MH when we bought it, so there was a considerable amount of information there. Then I got a wiring diagram by searching the internet, or possibly from this forum, I don't remember where it came from. I also bought a maintenance manual for the Onan gen. off eBay. I don't know about newer coaches, but eBay has always been a good source of manuals for me. I have them for all our vehicles and most, if not all, of them came from eBay.

I've always preferred paper manuals, but perhaps that's an age related thing. When I was helping the grandson with his 4 Runner it was handy to have him look up information with his phone, but I also had paper manuals from eBay.

While the Chilton, Clymer, and Haynes manuals are not the same as a factory shop manual, they will work for most repairs the average person will do. They can also be found at most auto parts stores.

Factory repair manuals are more detailed and cover only one model year. I've bought these from Helm when the vehicle wasn't old enough to have used manuals on the market. From my experience they are significantly more expensive than the others listed, but are a true factory shop manual.

I've also used the public library in a pinch. Ours has a good selection of repair manuals and will allow several copies (10?) before charging for them. They cannot be checked out from the library, only used there.

Ebay is still my favorite place to look for a factory manual if the vehicle is old enough for them to be on the used market. Also, "don't fire on the first one" as prices there can vary significantly.

Most of my repair needs have been to the coach accessories.

Manuals for those items are online in most cases. Even my 22 year old accessories.

The Generator manuals usually have a flow chart of trouble shooting steps to use in analyzing your problem engine or generator.

My Cummins engine manual also has trouble shooting charts plus repair and servicing of individual components and systems.

As stated above, the Internet is invaluable in solving all problems. But one has to be carefull when searching for the correct information. Sometimes you can watch a long U-Tube video and learn absolutely nothing.

It seems everyone wants to be published, so they do.
