Boondocking in Dahlonega?

Do you know of anywhere in Dahlonega GA to boondock? I only see one RV campground in the area, and it has pretty mixed reviews... I am planning to be in that area in late September, and would like to find a place close in to town.

Google shows a number of campgrounds in the region, and Dahlonega has a Walmart Super Center. Blairsville, Helen, all show multiple campgrounds.

I doubt boondocking is going to happen.

I'd stay at Yonah Mountain CG Yonah Mountain Campground - Yonah Mountain Campground Home in Cleveland and take the toad over to Dahlonega or rent a car in Gainesville on the way up. Cleveland is easy to get to from the south with no bad-mountain-road stress.

Thanks. Yes - I'm very familiar with the area, but was hoping to park somewhere within walking distance to downtown (college campus). I may not have a toad with me. Anybody have experience with the Wal-Mart there? Maybe that's a possibility...

Report shows the Walmart doesn't allow overnight parking.

https://www.allstays.com/c/Walmart/G...-Mart-2513.htm

A small rural GA town isn't likely to have any boondocking within walking distance of the campus. You might inquire with the campus police about overnight parking in one of their lots.

Nearby Wallydocking:

Cleveland 19 miles away.

Dawsonville - 13 miles away

I've spent some time up in those parts.beautiful country. You'll have trouble finding a place to boondock there though. I've also stayed at the campground your talking about. It's not too bad. Beware of country roads that dead-end at the worst time. Had to back a class A MH about 2,000 feet a couple of years ago there.

Wallydocking is banned in Cleveland.

If you know this to be a fact, why not update the Allstays database? Many others will be helped.

If you dont mind being on the mt top you might want to check out parking areas for the AT. They have to allow for over night parking.

Here's another article about free campsites in North Georgia.
