burnt sparkplug wires

I have a 1989 winnebago chiefton with a 454 engine. After traveling about 200 miles the right rear sparkplug wire burns up, only the right rear all others are fine and never burn up. I replaced all the wires with specially made hi-temp ceramic booted wires and still have the problem. Any ideas?

Can you relocate or reroute that wire? Where is it burning? Could you protect the wire with insulation in some way?

Is part of the heat shield missing? If you can put a heat shield or blanket between the wire and the exhaust header or manifold you should be able to stop the wire from burnning up.

I have a 1988 Bounder with the P32 Chassis. I had the same problem. If you consistently burn the same wire it is an indicator that you have an exhaust leak that is directing hot exhaust gases right at the sparkplug wire.

Most cases, you can't reroute the wire because the hot spot is really close to the plug.

I fixed mine temporarily by figuring out where the leak was and making a shield that kept the hot gases off of the wire. Note, the shield will work best if it is not touching the wire, just make sure that it is between the hot spot and the wire.

My permanent solution was to add Doug Thorley headers. No more burnt wires.

Knew a guy that used JB Weld and stopped a leak at the header. Blew out once on a very steep and hard pull, but lasted for quite a while.

I like the Thorley headers idea better, but it costs more
