I have a C9 400 HP Cat in a 36' Country Coach I need to get smog checked. California says my 2006 needs a catalytic muffler and the local Cat dealer I went to said Cat did not use a catalytic muffler on the C9 until 2007. Where can I obtain documentation of the Cat timeline? I cannot register the MH until I get this resolved. You information will be appreciated.

Is your GVWR rating over 14,000? I would think it is and if so you should not be required to do a smog inspection. I ask that as I live in Calif and I know the brilliant minds in Sacramento passed a law requiring diesel vehicles 1998 and up to be inspected but vehicles over the maximum 14,000 GVWR are for now still exempt from the program.

Do a search on "California Diesel Inspection Law" and you'll get places you can search regarding this dumb law or try the one below.

My friend --you are my hero. Being directed by you to the DMV and learning from you that a vehicle greater than 14,000 #'s is EXEMPT has allowed this day to end with a smile on my face. MANY THANKS!!

The DMV site: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm
says top of page in the first paragraph "Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles manufactured prior to 1998 or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.
