Camco awning de flappers and powered awnings

Hi,

I use 2 awning de flappers on my manual awning, a standard and a max on each side. I never hear a flutter out of awning when I use these.

If I get a powered awning on a newer coach should I still use these? Obviously the wind sensor should be turned off.

I would....For my electric awning, I made a telescopic set of deflapper poles that self store next to awning arms.......mine was a prototype, since then, a guy, Turbs, on Forest River Forum, has been making them for forum members.....I use 2 maxies on each end.....and the awning, along with using awning pokes and tie downs till wind become steady, or higher, then 35 mph....

Thanks Bob,

I must say I am very impressed with the deflapers.

From what I know of automatic awnings (just from what I've read/researched, I don't have one myself). They are actually more in need of the deflappers than the manual ones.
Manual awnings can be adjusted up and down to help lower they 'sail' ability.
Many (most?) automatic awning can't be adjusted down, and therefore the catch more air.

I am trying to weigh up if a power awning is a must for our next coach.

If I deploy the de flappers on either awning I need to use a ladder to do so and retrieve them.

Even for 1 night I deploy the de flappers.

I had deflappers for the old rig, loved them. Bought this rig with electric awning, gave away the deflappers! Miss the ability to adjust the awning the way I want it! It flops and bangs away until either I bring it in, or it comes in by itself when a wind comes up.
Happy Glamping.

Thanks guys for posting.

So if I use the de flapper all the time I don't really have the one advantage of the power awning which is to retract easily.

On a trailer, I can lower and lock the arms in a position that I can reach with a two step step stool, the inner most deflapper,........when deployed, I can reach the outboard set easy, and I always keep one end lower then the other

Camco awning de flappers and powered awnings

My opinion manual awnings the frames can be pulled to tighten canvas electric don't have anyway to tighten canvas. I say if you need a deflapper for electric pull it up.
