Have a friend with a 05 Winnebago Sunova. When hooked up to and using city water, the water in the tank goes down. this has happened each time they have used the city water. He called Winnebago and they think it is the diverter valve. Doesn't make sense to me.

Sounds like the valve to drain tanks must be open, if so water should be on ground underneath drian valve hose.
Make sure the diverte valve is closed to tank, if it's open you should be able to hear water filling tank, if so turn valveoff, water now should go to inside faucets.
Sounds simple, but nothing ussually is . Let me know if this info helps ..
Thanks===== AJBJRVERS

Make sure your friend has the water pump off while on city supply. If not, chances are the pump will run in parallel with the city supply and yes indeed, the level in the tank will go down.
As to the diverter valve, I'm at a loss to explain how it could cause this problem without overfilling the tank. But who knows how Winnie has plumbed the system? However, I can conceive of water being siphoned through the pump (which has a check valve to prevent backflow into the tank).

The system works normally when no city water is hooked up. No water on the ground. The pump is off. Can fill the water tank with the valve in the fill position. Another clue? It is worst when taking showers (more water flow) using city water. The tank level goes down faster. I have thought of the water being siphoned by the flow of the city water, but just can't envision that happening.

It sure sounds like your water pump is coming on. Is there any other switches that control the water pump? You description is itendical to mine if I forget to turn off the water pump switch, and there are 3 switches, usually only one is on.

If it is still in warrranty, have them take it to a Winnebago dealer and have them correct the problem. There could be an internal crack in the valve body that can cause this or they may have a bad pump allowing a venturi effect on the tank. This is an interesting case and I would like to be able to trouble shoot this myself but I guess I will have to wait for my turn.
