Carefree topper, how many turns?

Our front driver side slide topper got caught in a wind gust and tore up the topper cloth. It was ready for replacement so I'm not too upset. Anyway years ago the spring in same broke and I replaced it.

My problem now is I don't remember how many turns of the spring..
Fourteen rings a bell. Anyone know?

Model is SOKII.

Chart says 17 winds closed + 1 wind for each foot of extension. Wind Clockwise. I have the chart but can't seem to attach it.

I had to replace a broken spring on my slide. Followed the instructions and did the 17 turns PLUS 2 for the depth of the slide. Also, my topper always seemed to be a little loose so I did 1 extra turn.

There wasn't clear instructions on how to turn the spring. A trick that I did was use the topper arm to turn the spring. I took it loose from the coach, slipped the spring end in while it was mounted in the tube and used the topper arm to rotate the spring.

Adding the plus 1 for each foot of extension would only apply if winding with the slide open NOT closed. The way this is worded is a little misleading.
