has anyone replaced their carpeting? everything looks strait forward to me except under the slides. how is it attached under the slides, how do you get to that area? thanks for any help! jim.

I replaced the carpet in my prior Journey. It had one slide in the living area. The installer was able to remove the old carpet from under the slide with the slide extended, and install the new carpet. In our case, the outside edge was covered by the couch, which was attached to the slide.

It would be a good idea to adhere the carpet under the slide with a 1" wide fastener (screw and fender washer) so that when the slide moves in and out it won't catch an edge of the carpet and pull it up.

The challenge is finding someone to do the job for you. Home installers will do the installation like putting carpet in your home. More care needs to be taken in certain areas, such as under the slide.

Never had a problem with it coming up in my prior coach.

We had our carpet replaced with vinyl tile. The installer, Classic Coachworks in Lakeland Florida, laid tile under the slide up to the tacking strip, which was left in place.

If you have a dog that sheds you might want to consider tile rather than carpet.

Did they use the vinyl tile squares, like you would find at Home Depot or something higher grade? I'm having my carpet replaced next week. I had thought about doing tile but I didn't want to do real tile and the composite stuff is just as heavy. Thanks!

It's a high grade vinyl tile. They are individual squares. No grout. They're butted up against each other.

The installers laid down a mastic of some sort to level the sub-floor, then placed the tiles on top.

We left the original galley/dining wood floor. The vinyl tile is in the forward cabin to the entry steps and in the bathroom.

In the bedroom we replaced the old carpet with a berber type (no pile) carpet. The same carpet is on the walls of the entry.

We're happy with the choice.

We considered ceramic tile for about 10 minutes due to weight considerations, grout maintenance and cracking.
