Changing Black Water Valves

I have had a small leak in my black water valve, so I attempted to replace it with a new valve. It leaked as well; my guess is that the rubber gasket did not seat properly so I removed it, wiped it clean and tried again .... alas still did not have a seal. Does anyone have the secret to replacing the valve ???

On some rigs, it's really tough to replace one of the two valves due to very limited space. This can cause you to not get one or more of the rubber boots sealed properly.

I ended up just removing the entire "manifold" which contained the "Tee" where both black and gray valves are mounted. I rebuilt the manifold, replacing both valves... lubed them up really well... and then was able to reinstall the manifold/valve assembly as a completed unit.

Whatever the cause... we just have to get those black water leaks fixed.

Camping World sells a free standing valve that can be attached to the output end of the manifold just like your hose so if either valve leaks this one will hold it. it easy to install and replace as needed.

Use grease or Vaseline to "glue" the seals into the slots. Use what you can to spread the pipes as far apart as possible so you can slip the valve in with minimal contact. The pipes have a lip that drop into the center of the seal.
