the "fancy" Rand McNally atlas (trucker's edition, laminated pages and spiral bound) is available on Amazon for $50. we use both the atlas as well as a GPS. complete, utter dependence and reliance on either without engaging the brain is a recipe for disaster.

I suppose cost is a relative opinion.
The cost of the atlas we use is invaluable and can be purchased at truck stops and on line cheaper. It will last for a very long time. And the large print keeps us off of roads we do not being on unless we already know what we are doing.( those are the gray roads) We traverse many 2 lane state routes. If we are dialing down any closer we are in our car with the Waze as pp and GPS

Go to a truck stop and purchase a Rand McNally Motor Carrier Road Atlas
Get the enlarged version with the nice non paper pages and spiral bound
The road indicators are easy to read. All secondary roads that are traversable by trucks are marked in red.
Use this to plan your routes. The front contains low clearance by state as well as weight limited bridges.
Never ever depend on that voice in the box hiding behind a map. That GPS is only one tool and she WILL fail you. Anyone who depends on them deserves every dead end or one way street, every low clearance etc they get
Next download the Allstays Truck and Travel app. The filters will allow you to show all grades.
Do not allow your GPS to take you anywhere you aren't prepared for.
Exploring in your car is another matter and our GPS there is dependable.

This is what you really need, plus a MH friendly GPS
Use the force and you will be successful in your endeavors.
Stay on the main interstates, except to get to the RV parks. You will also encounter problems there, as they do perform road maintenance from time to time.

Remember in RV'ing its not always the destination, but the adventure in getting there that counts.

One of the only times I got in trouble was following the directions given by the campground when I called them for directions.
