Class B RV Generator

My propane powered RV generator on my class B will only start and run if the RV motor is running. When I turn off the RV motor the generator dies and will not restart. Not only will the generator not start and run, but the generator starter will not even try to engage at all without the RV motor running. The battery level indicator shows that the coach battery is fully charged.

What is strange is that the generator starts and runs just fine as long as the RV motor is running. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome to irv2.
Your house batteries may not be hooked up to Gen for starting or are to low to start it.
The engine alternator 12v output is high enough to start the Gen when engine is running.
Once the Gen starts check the converter to see if its output is charging your house batteries.

Sounds like it's using the engine battery to start and run. Either your coach batteries are dead or disconnected. Remember it takes alot to turn the starter but very little juice to keep it running. So once you turn your engine off there isn't any juice to make spark to keep it running and evidently the generator isn't putting any out to your house batteries either.

How old is the motorhome? My 86 has to have the plug for shore power plugged into the outlet for the generator to get power from it. Mine doesn't have a transfer switch just a plug from my generator that my shore plug plugs into.

Thanks to all of you for the tips. Electrical problems are always the worst. My class B motor home is a 2006 Forest River MB Cruiser on a Sprinter chassis. Because the generator will not run at all or even turn over without the rv motor running, the problem must be between the generator and the coach battery. The coach battery indicates that it has a full charge. It gives me somewhere to start anyway.
P.S. I checked the fuses and breakers in the fuse/breaker panel. Because the info that Forest River provided with the motor home is very limited, I wonder if anyone knows if there is an in line fuse between the generator and the coach battery?

There probably is no fuse, but look for a battery disconnect, or just remembered that they may have a circuit breaker mounted on the frame of the coach near the coach battery. I would also put a load test on the coach battery, the test panel does not give a reliable reading of tru battery condition.
