Heh-heh-heh, Walt. I like that.

On a previous motorhome, my dog's favorite place to sleep was in the hallway next to the propane-detector. That thing went off more one time in the middle of the night, til I figured-out the dog needed to be walked longer in the evening and finished his 'business'.

Thanks for all of the information. After doing some further investigation and monitoring when it goes off, here's what I came up with.

First, it only goes off if I'm charging my batteries with the vent caps off. And yes, I did charge them once overnight with the caps off.

It never goes off if I'm not charging my batteries. Now having said this, I thought Hydrogen gas, which is what is given off when you charge bats, was lighter than air and will naturally rise. My CO detector is under the sink cabinet in the kitchen about 4 feet from the stair well where the bats are.

I guess the morale is to vent the gas away from the kitchen

I don't have any problem with the CO detector but the LP detector goes off at all sorts of odd times; while fixing dinner, 30 minutes to an hour after going to bed, etc. Ventulating the area doen't seem to help much - usually just have to unplug it till next day and everything is fine for several days then off it goes again. Sometimes at night I think it is 1/2 hour or so after the wife or I have sprayed on some cologne in the bath area. Don't know why it takes so long to reach the kitchen area where the detector is but that seems to be some of the problem. The coach is only 2 1/2 years old and this has been going on for a year or so. The thing must really be sensitive, in fact too much so. Don't know whether it would do any good to replace it with a different brand or not from the one Winny uses.
