Coach House Platinum II

Parents down south. Bought new rig last year from Coach House in Nokomis Fl. So far, the rear axel and differential replaced by Mercedes in New York (humming sound got louder and louder). Last month, awning (automatic) did not retract in heavy rain, broke one of the arms and bent the beam/cover. Coach House replaced the arm this month. Replaced arm does not parallel the other arm. Awning does not lock when closed, and opened by itself on two occasion. Steve at Coach House said that they were not an authorized service center for Dometic, and call Dometic? Parents now relying on Dometic to help after they arrive home. A few days ago, the pump in the Thetford toilet stopped working. New pump should arrive today. Good friend has removed toilet and will re install. Thank goodness for good campers. Any comments relating to my parents aggravations with their unit? Any one had similar problems? Any one have similar units weighed?

Coach House Platinum II

I am one of very many who will tell you from hard experience that this not unusual, even on a brand new rig. It is a travesty of the industry. The nice thing is, you will find excellent help on this forum.

Have someone who knows, maybe the friend, go over your parents' rig top to bottom, front to back and inside out.

I'm not sure why you think there is anything wrong with Coach House referring you to Dometic for service on one of its products. Most of the major subsystems in an RV have their own warranties. The coach manufacturer provides a warranty on the RV conversion portion of the vehicle. Mercedes warrants the chassis and each of the other component suppliers warrant their portions of the RV. The lack of quality control in the RV industry is real, but even with better quality control the repair of faulty components wouldn't change.

I am well aware of the problems of a new coach. We had a number of small problems with our new Ambassador. (always said I'd never buy a new coach....????) After buying, the various problems were handled by (then Navistar). They took care of the various components, that I didn't have to contact each of the manufacturers. Coach House installed the awning, but are not an authorized service center for Dometic? That I do not understand!! Coach House should stand behind the product that they sell, shouldn't they??

There's a big difference between being a retail dealer and a service center.

From what I read on the Dometic website, it appears that Dometic premium electric awnings have wind sensors not rain sensors. If your parents awning collapsed because of rain it probably wouldn't have been a warranty repair so, most likely Coach House was doing the repair because your parents had purchased the MH.

They clearly didn't do the repair correctly, as you have said. If they didn't charge for their service then they are probably doing the right thing by telling your parents "if you want the repair done correctly you'll have to go to a Dometic Service Center." If they charged for the repair and it's not right then they ought to reimburse your folks for what they paid IMO.

Thanks for the reply's. The wind sensor did not and may still not work. Placed on the center of the beam, it should retract when bounced up and down from the wind. Does not do so when juggled by hand. Enough of this post. The fact remains that the repair of the one arm (does not parallel other arm), unit does not close/lock, and beam bent. I and my parent feel that Coach House does not support their product! Our opinion!! Asking if any one else out there has had similar problems with their unit as to repairs, and if they have had their Platinum weighed.

Hi there. Do you have any thoughts on the Coach House Platinum these days? We are looking into the SRT, possibly. TIA.
