I never thought of the accident angle - this explains why my StateFarm policy includes $100 of towing
Actually, your State Farm towing coverage has nothing to do with accidents. It is there for other-than-accident situations, i.e. it is for roadside assist. If your vehicle is too damaged to drive as a result of a covered accident, your collision insurance pays for towing as part of the repair. If another party caused the accident, their liability insurance pays for your towing and repair.

Good Sam ERS brochure (policy?) also states it is not a "Physical Damage" policy. It does list specific coverages and terms.. .Member Benefits Brochures | Good Sam Roadside Assistance

I also carry towing coverage from USAA, ($6 per vehicle) as a backup. The ERS programs will send a mobile mechanic for minor repairs or adjustments if the vehicle is disabled. "This is an alternative to towing the vehicle". I read that as either/or - if the mechanic is not successful- you pay for the tow.....

The USAA policy provides many of the same towing benefits as Good Sam but reimburses after you locate and pay for your services, towing, flat, battery etc.. If I'm ten miles east of Resume Speed, Utah, I want someone else to do the legwork...
