My wife and I are currently on our way to Alaska and our comode had stopped holding the normal small amount of water after a flush. I thought perhaps it was because of all the dust and bouncing around but my traveling partner said his had done the same and he found a solution. He said instead of easing the valve shut after a flush, he let his foot slip off the handle and let it slam shut. Tried it and sure enough it is now holding water. Probably won't have to do it every time but now I know what to do.

You should always allow the toilet ball to slam shut. That's what SeaLand told me about my toilet.
Besides, if you ease up on the foot pedal the water may continue to flow into the toilet - even if the ball is closed. This happened to us when my brother-in-law slept over and used the toilet in the middle of the night.
At 3:00 AM he woke us because the toilet had overfowed onto the floor and was running under the bedroom carpet!

My seal had dried (my falt, drained the antifreeze too soon). A tech at Camping World said to lube it with vasoline. That was in Jan. it's still holding water very well.

I don't do that, as it seems like the wrong thing to do, but that's what Sealand recommends.
