Our daughter and son-in-law would like to remodel their bedroom in their 2001 Windsport. Currently, their three bedroom windows have nice day/night shades, but UGLY ruffled curtains on rods. They would like to put up cornice boards like they have in the living area - but we're at a loss as to where to find them?? Is there a RV surplus store somewhere to purchase them? I'm making a duvet cover for the bed and would have NO problems recovering the cornice boards - if we could find them! Any ideas? I've thought of having them made, but hope to find some to save time.

They are custom made for the window size and the style you want. Theer isn't much to them - most anybody can make them.

Plenty of places will make them to. Just Google cornice boards and you will find them. There is even a guy on ebay that does it.

Yes, I had found those instructions when I "googled" cornice boards, but I was hoping to find the "upside down U shape" ones found in motorhomes. We need to cover the draw strings on the side from the day/night shades. Right now, the ugly ruffled ones cover it, but they want a more tailored look. I had hoped that maybe there was a company that sold ones from old motorhomes - or at least a list of instructions to make one?

I would want something a bit stronger than styrofoam, but what else could I use besides wood?

I've made several myself - did the bedroom in our stick house. Pretty simple, but then I'm a handyman type.

You could contact some RV salvage yards and ask, but you would need dimensions and I doubt if they would be willing to go look for you on such a low-price item. Your best bet would be to visit the salvage places with dimensions in hand and look around to see what they have.

Thank you again, Gary! I'll check it out. What did you make your cornice boards out of? Did you glue, nail, or screw them together? Did you use quilt bat under the fabric?

I glued and nailed them together, then covered with upholstery fabric. Used standard angle brackets (aka corner irons) to mount a few of them, then decided I could do it more easily and cheaper by simply screwing a short 3/4 x 1" wood strip to the wall and then screwing the cornices to that.

I made one finished wood cornice (no fabric covering) for a bathroom window. That took a bit more effort, since the construction needed to look pretty when I was done.

I'm going to make new ones for ours (it's on the list), and they'll be oak to match the cabinets. Not a real hard job, I've just got about twenty or thirty other more pressing jobs in line first.
