Question Cut Off Switch Onan generator

I can start my genny from inside RV with the panel switch, but I can't shut it off anymore with that same switch like I used to. But if I go outside and open the genny door and remove the panel cover I can shut it off with the switch on the genny. Could this be just the panel swith shut off function that's gone?

My guess would be yes. Do you only have one switch inside the motorhome to start and stop the generator ?

Maybe call your local dealer and just ask of they have ever had the same issue or just pick up a switch for the inside of the motorhome and hope that is the problem. I can't imagine that the switch would be that much.

Let us know what you find out.

Your genny has 4 wires from the front switch to the genny. What has most likely happened is that 4 wire connector has corroded so bad you lost connection on the kill wire. Inspect the connector or a bad connection or a corroded wire in the connector at the genny. Had this happen to me last year and the wire had corroded so bad the wire was totally gone. You may need a new plug at the genny, or just clean the connection and use dilectric grease on it.

Same problem for me, only I could not start remotely. I could only stop. My circuit board where the remote switch harness plugged in was a disaster. I wound up using DeOx-it on it and a wire brush on my Dremal tool to get it to work. After it was working I liberally coated the connection Jack and Plug with Dow Corning DC-4 grease and have not had any problems since.

I think clyon51 hit the nail on the head. Either the connector is corroded or the wire from the dash switch has broken or is pinched somewhere. If the latter is the case, it will probably be easier to run a new wire than to track down the problem with the existing one.
