If you're coming down the toll road there is a service center 5-10 miles from the end that has diesel. Price is only 1 or 2 cents more if memory is right.

Go to gasbuddy.com and search for diesel in florida city. After you get an address for one that looks reasonable go to google maps and punch that address in. Then switch to satelite view and zoom in all the way till it shows you a street view. You can usually tell from the street view if there is going to be enough room for you to get in and out fairly easily. Not every street has street view available but it is getting less and less avery day.

Cool Diesel before Keys

I was just there three days ago.

First off diesel in Key West is pretty expensive. I try to fill up in Homestead and drive all the way down and back to avoid fueling down there.

1. Just before US1 turns into a four lane divided highway that leaves the mainland the towns of Florida City and Homestead have cheaper fuel. The problem with a lot of stations you can't get a big rig amongst the hectic traffic. At the end of the Florida Turnpike go west one block and travel south on Hiway 997 (Krome Ave) and drive south paralleling US-1. There were several large stations with ability to fit big rigs. The diesel was about $3.85. I saw Hess, RaceTrak and Sunoco.

2. I was surprised there were three stations at the North end of Key Largo that had diesel for about the same price. Again Hess was one of them. The three I saw were immediately after US-1 finishes the causeway into Key Largo and then again just south of John Pennekamp SP.

South of Key Largo the price goes up.

Take bug spray, the "no-see-ums" we're voracious at sunset.

RaceTrack Diesel

Where I live in Central Florida RaceTrack is always the cheapest regular gas and Diesel. Usually the outer lanes are diesel. Sometimes getting in with a 40footer is a challenge with everybody rushing in/out and getting their slurpy's and cigs. The one in Florida City looked ok for a big rig.
