Diesel Spill

We filled up in Alb and drove 14 miles. We gained about 2000 feet in altitude. Upon getting to our site we spilled diesel onto the site from underneath. It stopped after a bit and now just smells. I'd estimate a couple gallons. I suspect this is an overfill situation compounded by the gain in altitude and heat of the day.
Does this sound right? I put kitty litter on the bulk of the spill and plan to rake it up tomorrow. Once done I'll treat the area with Simple Green and put more litter down.
I'd appreciate any comments. Never had a spill like this and want to do this correctly. I was concerned there might be more wrong with the fuel system. Any comments on that?
Thanks,
Phil

Unusual for it to spill underneath rather than at the vents, which usually terminate near the filler cap (but I don't know about your particular chassis). Any sign on diesel near the cap(s)?

Don't advertise the spill. Keep it low key, or you will have the DEP on your case $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Hey Gary,
Thanks for the good info. I looked underneath, found a hole, due to a rodent. Put a patch on it and will replace it soon. It was the filler tube on the left side.

Thanks for the advice on keeping it low key, will do.

Phil

Too late for the down low. They are now re-tasking a satellite.
