Now that I've joined the DP segment of RV'ers, I'm left pondering the "little things" that I will need to know to keep my rig running in top shape.

When I would put my V-10 gasser asleep for the winter, I would always change the oil in both the engine and genset, fill up the fuel tank, and add "Sta-Bil" to the fuel.

Does this same hibernating technique apply to diesel coaches? What type of fuel additive should I use?

Craig

Craig, the routine is the same. It's important to top off the fuel tank so condensation doesn't form in the tank. Make sure you check the fuel trap/drain on the fuel filter in the spring. Any fuel stabilizer that is compatible with diesel fuel should be o.k. Check at your local NAPA auto parts store. They'll be able to recommend one. I also add Lucas oil stabilizer when I change the oil at 1/2 the recommended rate. This helps keep the oil from completely draining off the moving parts and makes start up much more friendly. I start and run the coach and gen set at least once a month. I run the coach at least 10 miles and also run the genset under load by turning on as many things in the coach as I can.
