Almost all RV Co's build their product for Dealer orders. They don't stock any and therefore couldn't display at a show. They depend on their dealer network to do that. I love these shows. The Tampa Show cost $9 ( with $1 coupon ) for two days. For the cost if 2 1/2 gallons of fuel you can see just about every RV mfg today and buy just about anything you need from the vendors that display their all in a day or two. You can have a conversation with factory reps of RV's and Chassis mfg as well.
We walked through Foreteavels , Prevosts and Newell as well as the Winnebago trailers and Airstreams just to name a few. We're going back today for more abuse .
I get my money's worth and feel like a kid in a candy store.

Although the displays are run by dealers, with manufacturer support, many displays have manufacturer representatives there.

We went to the SuperShow here in FL on Wednesday and as expected it's a show on "STEROIDS". It's HUGE with plenty to see. I didn't think the crowd was that big for an opening day but that made it a bit easier to get in and see some rv's and a better look at some vender booths that last year you couldn't even seem to get close too. We're headed back today to catch some stuff we no doubt missed the first day and it gave our tired feet a day for some healing. Checkbook is staying home though.

If it's any consolation, the price of ticket goes to the venue and the show promoters, not the vendors. The vendors pay good money for their display areas. You could say the vendors are paying to show their products to potential customers.

Another way to look at it is the vendors costs are reduced because the venue collects ticket prices from the public. There was a time these things were free because the vendors paid the full freight. The venue made extra money from concessions.

No RV accessory vendors, just local CG's and home improvement vendors. Only one semiar that keep repeating (State Park). However, same price $10. We were only interested in changes in the A's, CG's and accessories. We were in and out in under an hour on a Friday night. The show's website was hosted by GS (yes, if you read the fine print at the bottom of the site it is Good Sam).
Living only 5 miles away from this show, we used to go each year. However after last year's show, we opted not to go to the Dulles Expo show this year, and it sounds like we made the right decision. Much prefer going to the Hershey show where the manufactures attend and there is a good inventory to explore.

We only have a couple of RV dealers in the whole Denver region so not having the Winnebago line was a major hole. We did have Thor and Tiffin. Leisure Travel was a big draw for me but they also locked the sold ones whereas the Thor and Tiffin dealer did not. Pleasureway was also represented (didn't lock the sold so that was nice) but not its competitors.

One of the guys at the Leisure Travel booth was snotty to me when I asked him to open the coaches so I could see them. They had a sign posted telling you to ask to see them. He said if I had bought the coach I would want it locked wouldn't I? Actually I think if I had bought a show model I would expect them to allow people to see it at the show, but that is just me.

If the shows were just to sell RVs on the spot then why don't some manufactures bring in some lines that aren't sold in the area? They could make a killing. I would love to see a Newmar or something else we don't have locally. Just having the local dealers bring stock is kind of silly because you can just drive to them and see the units without paying an admission fee.

We were lucky in that we didn't buy advance tickets due to possible poor weather. When we got there they said if you were Good Sam members you could go to a specific ticket booth and pay half price so at least we only spent $5 each on admission.
We bought our 2013 Itasca Ellipse at the FMCA rally in Indianapolis in September. We fully expected they would continue to show it after they put a sold sign on it. The dealer said, they almost never have an issue of damage or soiling. She did say it has happened however, and they had to do a complete switch out of dinnette once because a child totally messed it up. She said if anything happens to it, we will make it new before time for you to pick it up.

Went to the Pittsburgh show yesterday and was also surprised there weren't more MH,s. Onlt 3 Class C's and no Class B+. Went especially to see a Thor Ace and none to be found.

We went to the Edison NJ show yesterday, and there were a lot of Class A's, no Bs and only a few Cs, and also lots of towables and 5th wheels. The vendors, though. WTH. I was hoping that they would be RV-centric (when we owned a boat & went to boat shows, the vendors were awesome). Camping World was the only dealer/vendor that had any rv-specific items, and those weren't priced any differently than if I ordered from the catalogue or went into the store. Basement waterproofing, check. Gutters, check. Portable TENS unit, check. Kayaks, sure. New roof? Absolutely. Hot tub? Gotcha covered. Granite counter tops. Knives, waterless cookware, sunglasses & dime-store junk. Made no sense at all to me.

I don't understand people bringing very small children to these types of things, though. I would never do that when our kids were young, we saw a LOT of kids just having meltdowns. We saw more parents than I expected letting their children simply run wild in the coaches - bouncing on the furniture, slamming doors & drawers, jumping on the beds, playing in showers.

There's another show in Atlantic City next month, and I'm debating going. It's likely to be the same dealers, and if the vendors aren't any better, I have little to no incentive unless I feel like hitting the casinos afterward.

ummm most of this is a sad indictment on the RV industry.
Sounds like the manufactures, dealers industry leaders need to have a real think on staging these shows.
A bad show can be worse than no show at all.
However if its anything like shows I have been an exhibiting company at before.
The show is organized by a promoter outside the industry, just someone who runs exhibition shows.
The venue is hired by the exhibition compmany who then sell the naming rights to a major sponsor eg Camping world, Big Bobs RV city.
They then get all the dealers, retailers and anyone else who will pay for a sight by the square foot on board.
They don't care if they sell shoe polish or shinola, its about selling space and hype.
Then each dealer, retailer, manufacturer is sets up a site or display according to budget.
The exhibition company makes no guarantee as to how many people will attend and they usully front up with stat's from previous shows, we all know about stat's you can make them say whatever you want them too.

So weather you have a great show, a good show or a bad one depends on the vendors collectively.
With money tight the manufactures know that people will see their product at dealers yards regardless so putting bug dollars into annual shows does not really result in a major sales increase.
However as an MH owner I too still feel as a whole the industry would benefit from great shows.
I love to do the walk through s and have the whole touchy feely experience.
Cheers
Rusty
Just dont expect to see to many of them anytime soon.
