Disapointing RV Show

I went to the Greensboro NC Progressive & GS Events RV Show today. I was looking for motorhomes. There were no Tiffens, No new Tours-only 1 2010, no Paloozas, no Entegras, etc However there were the new Thor A.C.E. models but they all were locked with sold signs. However lots of lower priced 5 wheels $29,000-49,000. Lots of travel trailers. No B coaches, no popups of any kind that my son was interested in. It was like the good stuff went elsewhere and several of the larger dealers that normally show were not there. Strange. Over all it was about 1/2 the size of previous shows. The non RV venders were strange- waterless cookware, Amish wood storage sheds, basement waterproofing, RE-Bath, Sunrooms, Fiat Autos, jewelery, scarfs, etc.

The Denver Progressive RV show was disappointing also. We had a bit more than you did but no Winnebaga/Itasca. We only have a couple of RV dealers in the whole Denver region so not having the Winnebago line was a major hole. We did have Thor and Tiffin. Leisure Travel was a big draw for me but they also locked the sold ones whereas the Thor and Tiffin dealer did not. Pleasureway was also represented (didn't lock the sold so that was nice) but not its competitors.

One of the guys at the Leisure Travel booth was snotty to me when I asked him to open the coaches so I could see them. They had a sign posted telling you to ask to see them. He said if I had bought the coach I would want it locked wouldn't I? Actually I think if I had bought a show model I would expect them to allow people to see it at the show, but that is just me.

If the shows were just to sell RVs on the spot then why don't some manufactures bring in some lines that aren't sold in the area? They could make a killing. I would love to see a Newmar or something else we don't have locally. Just having the local dealers bring stock is kind of silly because you can just drive to them and see the units without paying an admission fee.

We were lucky in that we didn't buy advance tickets due to possible poor weather. When we got there they said if you were Good Sam members you could go to a specific ticket booth and pay half price so at least we only spent $5 each on admission.

I went to the Fort Worth, Texas (Tarrant County) RV show yesterday. There was everything from 400K motohomes to 5th wheels to travel trailers to pop-ups. I was impressed.

I just went to the RGV RV show. No class A's, no class B's, one class C. About 30 5th wheels probably that many travel trailers and many, many park models. I guess they figure that more people just want to find a spot and plunk down a park model.

Indianapolis RV show Sat. Dealers were present, show energy absent, few service supply vendors. Deck treatments, home insulation. Hot tubs???
If I was vendor/dealer I might begin to reconsider the substantial expense and begin to consider other promotions. I know the sponsors aren't prorating the exhibit fee based on low attendance.

Should have saved the cost of admission for a couple of cups of dunkin Donut coffee..

Hoping the Atlanta show isn't as disappointing. It was packed last year. We had a pretty good time.

Also a Progressive sponsored show, the Washington DC (Dulles Expo) show was disappointing. There use to be two large halls that were within walking distance or you could ride a shuttle. The "North" hall is now a Walmart. So with half the space there were less vendors. CW use to have a large corner of the building-not any more. No RV accessory vendors, just local CG's and home improvement vendors. Only one semiar that keep repeating (State Park). However, same price $10. We were only interested in changes in the A's, CG's and accessories. We were in and out in under an hour on a Friday night. The show's website was hosted by GS (yes, if you read the fine print at the bottom of the site it is Good Sam).

There were 2 shows in Boston schedule. The one by New England Shows LLC at the Seaport was cancelled. The one being hosted by New England RV Dealers and at the Boston Expo Center is suppose to be bigger and better than last year. Supposedly one dealer is bringing more Class A's than the entire show had last year.

I have talked to a few dealers and asked why so few, if any class A and Diesels. They said money. Something about cost and the manufactures don't kick in money like they use to.
