Do you run MH water heater continuously?
Quick question: Do Full-time RVers leave their water heater on all the time or only when they plan to use it (ie dishwashing, showers etc)? Ours is A 6 gal propane water heater.

Well, it depends. If we're hooked up to electric shore power, then yes, leave it on. If not, fire it up about 30 min before using. Or leave it on propane, it will cycle on and off and not hurt anything. You can buy what's called a Hott-Rodd so that you can use electric to heat your water. Google it.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
We're not fulltimers, YET, but we keep the AC side of the WH on all the time when connected to shore power. We turn the LP side on about 15 minutes before we start showers, then turn it off again when finished. That helps to be able to take longer showers without running out of hot water.
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

I do not have it on while traveling or when parked in the shed whether for a long time or short time. Somehow the engine heats the water while traveling.

My water heater is gas only. We leave it on when at CGs but turn it off while driving the road.

As stated if its electric then leave it on. My observation is that most people with gas only also leave it on as I can hear what sounds like a jet engine firing up each hour throughout the night. I find it annoying. JMO

It must have a hot water loop going around the htr. My boat had that and it did a great job, actually too hot, should have been regulated down.

If parked and plugged in it's a toss up. Sometimes it is on and sometimes I remember to turn it off at night. The tank will hold hand washing hot water all night. I check it in the morning when I get up. Same gauge panel as tank levels and water pump. All get a look when I get up.

It's called "motor aid", more common in boats than RV's and nice to have. My last two MH's have had it. Have to watch it when first stopping as the water is very hot, possibly up to 200-210° as it almost the same temp as your engine coolant.

We turn ours on when we wake up. We have gas and electric. We're hooked up so I guess we could leave it on. Still, we've usually got warm water for many hours after we turn it off.
Never tried flipping the gas on during showers but we both have been showing pretty quick so it's not a problem.

I have dual heat so when I'm hooked up at a CG I turn it on. If we're using showers we'll turn the propane on sometimes, especially if the grandkids are travelling with us.
I also have hot water that is heated by the engine, and as Mr_D alluded to, it is extremely hot when you first stop. We learned that the hard way!

I used to for 12 years but due to some insects now I only run it full tinme when it's cold enough to risk freezing. No problems though I did have to replae the tank last summer. But at over 12 years... Normal maintenance.

After surprising my wife with a cold shower one evening, mine is on all the time, propane or 120v, when parked and occupied. If I remember, I'll turn it off when driving.
Happy wife makes a happy life.
