After very brief negotiations, Dometic agreed to replace the 2+ yr old awning fabric on my slides, and picked up the labor tab as well.

The material was severely delaminated, and blowing in the wind when the slides were extended.

Job was completed by my dealer today!

Thanks to Dometic for stepping up!

Glad to hear you got some satisfaction. Those A&E slide toppers seem to last [maybe] about 4 years and then delaminate and I don't know of anybody who gets sympathy from Dometic at that age. 2 years, though, definitely deserves a free replacement, in my opinion. And you aren't the first I've heard from who had early life failures on their A&E slide topper.

Worse, A&E says go to a dealer and the dealers mostly won't do a fabric replacement - they just say "you need a new awning" at about double the cost. PPL Motorhomes has replacement fabric for A&E toppers if you are out of warranty and want to go the DIY route.

I spoke to my dealer and he told me that his company had replaced dozens, if not more because of delamination. He advised me to contact Dometic, and how to "deal" with them. He said that owners often got better results when contacting Dometic directly w/o dealer participation.

Seems that the awnings most affected are those manufactured between about 2002 and 2004.

It took several e-mails and a few digital photos to convince them. I offered to pay labor and was surprised that they also agreed to pay for that.

No, maybe some day. Now that my construction company is doing well and I have a good foreman,I decided that someday I want to start an rv mobile tech co. I am enrolled in a few tech classes in the next few months, will be in Atlanta also,I get to do some good traveling and have Karen's 100 percent support.Kind of a Goal I set 10 years ago.Even if it does not pan out I will have a greater understanding of my favorite hobby.

That sounds like a really great goal Frank. I just saw a local collage outside of Phila here somewhere that has courses in RV repair, with collage credits. If you are interested I will look it up for you.

Hey Frankie, that's a great goal. It'll be like having a doctor in the family. We can come to you for free medical advice.
