This is a really dumb question, but I can't find the answer in any of my docs.
I have a Cummins ISC 8.3, 350hp.
I just had it serviced by my Winny dealer in the last town we were in. Just to satisy myself, I pulled the dipstick to make sure the dealer refilled the crankcase. The dipstick showed about 1" of oil on the "twisted" end of the dipstick. The dipstick also has a notch cut into it about 6" from the end. But no writing to say "Full", Low", etc. I checked my manuals and couldn't find anywhere that explained how to read the dipstick. I assumed the notch would be the "Full" mark, but I'm afraid of overfilling.

So, dumb quesstion is: How do I read the dipstick?

Thanks.
Paul

Paul, it should hold about 5.5 gals if yours has the same oil pan as mine.

The Cummins Website is usually pretty helpful but I couldn't solve the dipstick mystery there.

5.5 gallons sounds like alot off hand but engines and pans vary.

You'd best call 1-800-DIESELS. Cummins should be able to tell you.
