Dynamax nightmare

Well, my adventure in my 2007 dynamax isata continues. Today I went to HWH to have my levelers fixed and they found that my coach is listing. Found a broken Pilman arm (sic). It holds the axal straight. It's why I've been bottoming out and had such a rough ride. So now I'm parked in Iowa trying to figure out my next move.

Called the dealer and he recommended that I should have taken the extended warranty...LOL.

Between airbags, propane leaks, and now this in 3 weeks of ownership...RVing probably wasn't a great idea for me. Or maybe it's karma from the military catching up to me.

If you are starting to question your decision than RV'ing may not be right for you. I think on the other hand that it's great that they found the problem ( pitman arm broke ). Hopefully you'll get these few things fixed and then have many months of blissful travel. It's quite common to have to fix items from time to time. For most of us it's worth it. We all just hope that the engine and tranny last. Good luck partner!

If that's the best your dealer could offer that's too bad. He should have been able to recommend a location for repair. At least you are only about 1/2 hour from Davenport/Moline or Iowa City. I would think either place would have repair locations that can get you repaired.

Stick it out a bit longer. Your list a problems actually is shorter than what some new coach owners have posted along with waiting weeks or months for warranty repairs. Their only advantage was the factory paying for the repairs.

This week on my 11 year old rig I replaced the cracked shower skylight, fixed a leaky power steer pump, replaced the weather beaten waste tank vent covers, replaced three roof ladder steps and I still have one or two items that need attention.

The guys at HWH should be able to recommend a place to fix it. If not since your still mobile there are several places in the Quad Cites.

There is something wrong here...if you mean the "Pitman arm"(sometimes called the drop arm)...that piece cannot be broken without total loss of vehicle steering.


And the Pitman arm does not impact the suspension or holding the vehicle level.

Maybe it is just cracked?


The "Pitman arm" connects the steering box to a rod (drag link) that pushes and pulls the steering of the vehicle. See:

If someone told you it is the "Pilman arm"...I have no idea what that is. But it's not a part of any suspension I have ever seen

Damn John, the hits just keep coming don't they! Looking at your pics and not being around many airbag systems I wonder if the rod could be like a panhard rod(or bar) you see in some 4 link suspensions. It is used in a similar fashion on some applications. Seeing your coach in person (it's nice, my wife fell in love with it)I would encourage you to give it a little more time if you didn't have anything else new pop up between Iowa and Ohio maybe you can catch a break after this one and enjoy yourself without a breakdown haunting you.

That is a track bar...but that still DOES NOT control the level of the RV.

It DOES control the lateral axle movement (left to right).

As I said above, there is something wrong here...my first point would be that the shop helping you really seems to have no idea what suspension parts do or are called.

I would be looking for a second opinion.

I'm surprised (ok maybe not too surprised) that Dynamax couldn't help. I think the rear suspension is something they brewed up. It has come up here at irv2.com before. Looks like this, right?
