Electric Sun Visor is moving with Difficulty

In our 2008 Newmar Dutch Star I have two electric sun visors. The one on the driver’s side is moving with difficulty. I have removed the sun visor and opened the side where the motor is (I needed a square recessed tool for it). I can see a red and a black adjusting screw or roller. I assume they are for the end positions. I don’t know the brand of the sun visor.
What can I do to make the motor run better?

PeterE,

As indicated by your photo, the black is your stop limit for extending the shade down toward the dash and the red is the stop limiter for when it is retracted.

If your motor is "slow" as you describe and your shade is opening and closing poorly, it is going to be one of the following:

1. Lack of suffcient 12V power
2. Shade is binding in housing (if applicable) or on roller
3. Motor is weak/bad

Now, if your coach is like mine, both shades are on the same fused power source. So if one shade is functioning correctly and the other is not, then you can rule out low voltage.

The sun visor on the passenger side is moving normally. I also tried the motor on a 12V battery after removing it from the coach and it barely moves.
I can also exclude your second point.
I am pretty sure it is the 3rd point. How can I remove the motor from the roll? I just don't see it.

Do you know what brand of shade it is MCD?, Automotion?

There should be a logo/decal on the lower metal edge guard of the shade. (Check both sides?

Toribk,
The sun visor is from AutoMotionShade, part # 78026. I have called Newmar and they told me that I can buy the complete sun visor for $311

I made some progress today: I removed the arms and pulled out the roll, then I unrolled the fabric. There is another screw (square recessed) that holds the motor. Unfortunately it is a S0 square. I have ordered bits with this head. They should be here tomorrow. Then I can remove the motor and (hopefully) report my diagnosis.

www.rollertrol.com has aftermarket roller motors that cross reference to the AMS shade motor.

I removed the motor, but I don't see a way to open it.

I don't have any experience with this motor. BUT fixed hand tools RC cars. A lot of small electric motors are crimped closed/together. It obviously hasn't been run like an old hand drill. Where an armature windings or brushes and rotor gets worn out. Probably can only be dry bearings or bushings.
You may only be able file crimp material away to get it open. Then it can be a challenge to compress brushes or assembly. For bushing ,fan motors and tiny bearings there isint much better can be had at Ace hardware. Google zoom spout oil.

I have an MCD unit. The motor is not made to be serviced, just replaced. Betting the Automotion is the same.

Today I have tided up my bench and looked at the motor again. There is a stud (2.75mm diameter) on the other side of the sticker and I can feel something under the sticker. So I took a hammer and a nail and tried to push it through, but it is not one stud, but two little studs. I was able to pull out the plastic part and some electronics (?) in heat shrink, but I could not pull out the motor. I can see it in the tube.

Unfortunately I am going on a vacation next week (not in the motorhome).

I just noticed that I didn't finish this thread.
I ordered a motor from rollertrol.com and they also have an STL file on their website. A friend 3D printed the part and with this I was able to get the sun visor working again. It is better than the original, now.
