Engine alarm intermittent

I have an CAT C9 engine and the engine idiot light flashes and an alarm goes off every once in a while starting yesterday. The dash reads "stop engine" but within 10 seconds everything goes back to normal. Temp is normal, oil pressure normal, transmission temp is normal. No fault codes listed at all in the diagnostic menu. Anyone have any ideas?

With the problem only on start up , I'd think the first check would be batteries, if during the start up the voltage drops below a certain amount ; say 10.5 v ; the engine controller may be confused and not get around to proper operation , till the alternator builds the voltage back up.

Lightbulb

Check coolant level also, if you have a surge type tank with level indicator it may be low enough to trigger while driving up/down hills and around corners.

Hello Bill, I believe before a CAT engine will start, the ECM has to see oil pressure. Might try calling CAT and asking them about this, maybe a new oil pressure sensor may correct this>.......

OP here... What I should have said was the problem started day before yesterday after several hours of driving. Coach batteries were at 13.6, oil pressure and engine temp normal. I'll check fluids in the morning before pulling out but this is driving me nuts!

Your suggestion turned out to be the problem. I was two quarts low on antifreeze. The window was pink which I thought clearly showed antifreeze but really showed a dried residue... Another lesson learned. So after taking off the window and cleaning it, adding antifreeze and a new cap as the gasket was showing its age so far I'm good! Thanks again for the help!
