entrance steps

befor I do any thing need some advice on what to do
entrance steps will not come out when the door opens
they try to come out, will move about half inch and will go back
in when door shuts

There hitting something or they are stuck. There is a top pivot shaft that needs oiling, even though it says it don't. Or the motor is over amping. That's what stops them in or out. When they hit a load the overamp relay drops out. Have someone open the door and you pull on the steps and see if it works. If it does, oil the crap out of it.

The power for the steps usually comes from your engine battery. My battery was low one time and I had the same symptoms.

I found that by using Castrol Oil chain lube (for motorcycle chains). I only need to lube the steps once per year. All other lubes I tried didn't work.
