I installed the new Blue Essex KE-1601 Keypad on Sunday.
I guess what ticks me off the most is the fact that you have to remove a small portion of the plastic on each end to make the dang thing fit correctly as Joe so kindly pointed out.
You would think that if they wanted you to use the old cover plate the new keypad would be made to fit without having to jump through hoops to make it work. Or they should have supplied a new cover plate that does work with the new keypad.
Anyway getting beyond my rant, I used my Dremel tool with a sand paper disc on the end and it made short work for removing the excess plastic until it was perfectly flat on each end.
And Joe, you are correct in that the new keypad needed to be reprogrammed so it must have its own internal memory. The Essex box inside the dash in the middle of the coach must be for another purpose possibly for use with the key-fob which I use occasionally.
My own personal opinion is that I really prefer the Red color for the lights versus the new Blue that they use now. The Red blinking lights gave it more of a security look versus the Blue when it is blinking after using the lock code.
