Extend and widen Class C Ford

Has anyone ever extended there Class C, mine is a 71 Ford E-100 20' ,width is just over 6'. The MH has been parked for the last 20 years and runs excellent it has a 302 automatic and the chassis is like mint.

I would like to widen it to 102" and also lengthen it to 25' although I have doubts if this is a smart way to go when I see newer Class C's from $2000 to $5000.

What are your thoughts?

Jim, it sounds to me like what you're planning is to take a 44 year old MH down to the chassis, increase the width by almost 50%, increase the length by 25%, then build a new box up on top of it.


While I applaud your gumption and initiative, think about this. It's an E-100 chassis. (I used to own an E-100 van.) It's probably overweight as it sits right now. By the time you're done you'll be several thousand $$$ poorer and probably have a MH that is essentially undrivable. I would suggest an alternate plan.

That 302 has almost enough power now...almost...will not have enough after.

Plus older fords were under braked so if it gets moving it will be hard to stop it.

I tell people all the time that the most expensive motorhome or camper you can have is a free one! I know of too many people who are in the process of redoing an older unit and years later they are thousands poorer and still have yet to go camping one night.
