Extended warranties

I am looking at different extended warranties for my new Diesel Pusher motorhome. Does anyone have comments about Route 66 extended warranty insurance?

I just did a forum search on them and there isn't really much... but the few comments I came across during a quick scan seemed to be positive.

My unsolicited advice would be to really do your homework. Don't buy it until your factory warranty expires... and don't buy it from your dealer.

Best of luck.

Are you a gambler Sir? That is, do you go to casinos? Do you play the card game or, just the slots? You see, When you gamble, you're hoping that the "small" amount you insert into the slot machine is going to "Pay off" in a big way. Well, the house is "betting" you'll loose that small amount and they won't have to "Pay off".

You see, I look at those extended warranties as just like gambling. You're hoping the small amount (sort of) that you'll pay for that E\W will pay off "When" something rather large breaks or goes bad and the company has to pay for it to be replaced or repaired. And of course, they're hoping for the opposite, that they'll NEVER have to pay for anything while the warranty is in existence.

There are lots of folks out there that have had success with the "gambling" and won, in terms of using the E/W that is. But, there are countless folks that have paid that price and never used it. I have read many, many forums and threads on this very subject and from what I recall, the majority will tell you to save the same amount that you'd be paying for that warranty in a separate account and maybe even with some small growth (real small in todays markets) you'll be able to use it if and when the time comes.

But, if that time never comes, you'll still have the MONEY, NOT THEM!!!! This is only suggestion here. You'll have to determine if it's of value to you to take the gamble.

My advice that you first obtain a complete copy of the policy, including all disclosures. Many exclude anything deemed by them to be a maintenance item. Many also require records showing that that all routine maintenance has been completed by service techs on the item for which the claim is being made. I am not familiar with route 66.

Warranties are like, well you know, we all have one. It is a crap shoot. You'll never really know if they're any good until you need them. I personally had Good Sam but dumped them when we had a disagreement. I went with XtraRide, which was cheaper, had a good rep., and I got a lower deductible. But again I won't really know until I need them.

RT 66 has been very good for us. If you have the work done from the dealer you purchase it from the ded is $33. When we bought this DP there were no records of maint. and I was not going to own it w/o. The key is finding a dealer who knows RT 66 and is willing to go the extra effort to contact them and get approval before work is started.
