Extended Warranty

Just ordered a 2015. The dealer is offering a 5 year extended warrantee for about $6500 with $100 deductible. Looking for those who have purchased an extended warrantee, what you paid and are you happy with your choice. It seems like the Good Sams extended service plan is pretty reasonable, $2500 with $250 deductible.

Read the terms closely. Some begin at purchase date, others begin when the factory warranty terminates. While the factory warranty is in effect you have time to shop around for a better deal, the selling RV dealer makes a profit from selling extended service contracts.
Personally, I would wait until the factory warranty is nearly expired, then buy an extended service contract (it is NOT a warranty). Any such contract must spell out in detail what is NOT covered (exclusionary contract). Such a contract means everything NOT mentioned is covered. You must meet ALL contract terms and conditions before the contract holder pays anything.

I see no reason to purchase an extended warranty until AFTER the manufacturer's expires, then you can check with all the different company's that offer one. A word of caution, Good Sam doesn't have the best reputation, but you're the one who ultimately has to decide. One I have personal experience with is www.wholesalewarranties.com I've had nothing but outstanding service from them.

I am not a fan of additional warranties. It's almost always over the long term to be self insured. Agree that if I were to get one it would not be until the original manufacturers warranties expire. And then it would not be via the dealer as there are usually better warranties at a better price than what the dealer offers. Also consider a high deductible to lower the cost, mitigate large expense repairs, and retain more of the self insured aspect.

The one case where I think such a warranty can have a place is when buying a used RV. As a mitigation against latent unknown large cost defects. And then for a term of one year. At the one year point, and having experience with the RV, make the decision if to continue the warranty or move to self insured.

I deliberately avoided mentioning any specific company. Now that Good Sam has been called into this conversation I'll say this; we bought a Good Sam extended service contract at the time we bought our MH ( April 2013), since then I've had pleasent experiences with them. It's been 18 months now, GS contract (cost $4,800/3 yrs) has paid-out nearly $5,000 dollars for repairs/replacements to our MH house portion, chassis has never required a repair. One example: both rearview outside power/heated mirrors replaced @ $1,300 ea. We still have 18 months remaining on the contract.
IMO, I've had a good experience with GS and gotten more than I paid for.

The "secret" is strictly adhering to their claims procedure and knowing what is and isn't covered.

I agree completely to adhering to the claims procedure's. My plan with gaskets & seals from wholesale warranties cost us $4200/4yrs. w/unlimited mileage, and $250 ded. That's what I meant about shopping around for the best deal.

Ya, Ramets I didn't shop around because there are few companies that offer an extended service contract for a 2000 MH.
