Extended Warranty Work?

After 3.5 years I am about to take my motor home in for it's first repair under the extended warranty I purchased with the coach.
The repair concerns a leak between the pump and reservoir of the hydraulic leveling system (Lippert).
The warranty is through USA Travel Care, their platinum (for whatever that's worth) coverage agreement.
Now to my questions.
Has anyone made a claim through USA Travel Care? What was your experience and do you have any advice?
How about Lippert? Parts issues or problems?

Thanks,

Greg

can't answer your specific question, Greg, but from what I've read ALL of the extended warranty companies have at least this in common...you MUST get the work authorized by USA Travel Care prior to having the work done. get an authorization number, an e-mail...anything that will prove you did in fact get the work authorized.

Mine is also Travel Care, Platinum. Large slide failed. Took to dealer where MH was purchased (along with extended warranty). Dealer diagnosed problem, contacted Travel Care, got approval, and did repair (2 slide motors). I paid the $50 deductible, bill was for $1500+.

Authorization before doing the work is typically a must with any warranty company. The person contacting the warranty company should be experienced in such interactions - as the warranty company can key in on most any comment and try to use it for a denial of coverage. The warranty company can rather arbitrarily limit the labor time allowed, leaving you to pick up the difference.

Remember these are service contracts not "warranties" by law. The service contract gives you far less leverage since it's a contract between you and the company. Everything is spelled out in the contract and neither one can deviate from the contract paperwork.

I've got an extended service contract thru U.S.A. Travel Care - and have made 3 claims to date - including one for issues with the air leveling system on the coach. They've been fine to work with - as long as you follow their process. The process is the typical "they must approve repairs BEFORE they're made". You simply have to ensure your shop understands that and makes the call to USA Travel Care with a solid estimate before starting the actual repairs.

In each of the three repair claims I've processed thru them - they were responsive and didn't give my repair shop much grief about costs.

The only time I paid anything more than my deductible was for the replacement of my hydraulic pump - which failed while traveling and was repaired by a mobile RV repair service. My Coachnet contract paid for the initial dispatch to have the mobile RV repair service come out. My U.S.A. Travel Care contract paid for the replacement pump and the installation. The dispatch fee associated with the 2nd trip out to actually install the pump was not covered by either Coachnet or U.S.A. Travel Care. That cost me a $175 out of my pocket to cover the cost of the dispatch (the mobile service was 90 miles away ...).

In the big scheme of things - I have no complaints with my experience with U.S.A. Travel Care.

Make sure you deal with a shop who knows after market plans. How it is written up makes a big difference. IE; worn part no coverage, broken covered.

Thanks to all for your replies.

Dropped it off at the dealership this morning. New group in their service department which was a blessing. Our service tech had previously worked with the warranty company and was actually knowledgeable of the system/problem.
Of course he did try to talk me into their aftermarket bracing system to rectify the "poor mounting design". Had to pass on that one based on previous inspection of the original mount.
Off to a good start, should be ready for the 10k mile "get the heck out of Phoenix for the summer" trip soon! Already in the 80's here.......

Do you have a gaskets and seals rider? Typically ESC's only cover part/component failures, not leaks-unless you have that rider. Re-reading your contract should identify what is NOT covered and what IS covered.
FYI, if you don't have that rider and an engine/transmission seal fails, causing engine/transmission failure, nothing destroyed is covered.
