Exterior vinyl strip adhesive

Suddenly this year all of the vinyl trim inserts (that cover exterior screws) decided to shrink up and fall off. I ordered new vinyl but have one question before I go to town.

It appears that Jayco used some sort of caulk behind the aluminum trim strips and that same stuff was used to glue the ends of the vinyl to keep them from coming loose. That caulk is hard as a rock now and ought to be loads of fun to get off.

Any suggestions for caulk loosening, and more importantly, any recommendations for what to use to secure the vinyl ends this time? I was considering an exterior grade white silicone...

Thanks!

Well .... 2 things. This 3m tape works well for covering the screws in the channel and holding the vinyl trim in place:
3M Super Strong Automotive Attachment Tape, double sided tape, foam tape, 3M mounting tape

you can get it at any auto store ... Advance/NAPA/etc.

and, typically, the ends are held in place with a screw thru the trim (about 1/2 inch from the end). ... in other words, to the right of your thumb in the pic.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll check out the tape. Jayco didn't put any screws at the end of our strips - if they had, the strips wouldn't have started peelin' & flappin'...

Yup ... the screws aren't pretty but without them the vinyl just shrinks and pulls back from the ends.
