External LP running a genny

Hi all,
I vaguely remember reading here that you cannot use an extend-a-stay thing to run a gen. for AC. Is that true or false? All the reviews/praises by folks mention how they can use an outside tank to run heaters, grills, campfire but no one mentions an LP generator. Has anyone done so without problem? I want to camp in summer at places that won't allow me to move an MH everyday. I don't think I can even order a truck to come in to fill up. Please let me know your experiences w/ running an LP gen. w/ a small built-in tank. Thanks in advance.

While it will work I'd think swapping tanks out and figuring out where / how to refill them would get old fast.

I could be wrong, but I think it may depend on the generator. The ones I used to work on a while back required a supply of liquid propane, to be converted to gas at the gen set.

If you're talking about one like that, Extend-a Stay wouldn't work. Those are for use with vaporized LP only.

I'm not a expert on LP generators but on my coach the LP generator has a separate pick up just for the generator at the middle of the large LP tank. When I hook up my stay a while it hooks up to the outside of the large tank in between the tank and the supply for the LP appliances in the coach. IMHO their is no way the portable tank can feed the LP generator. I do use the stay a while valve and a portable LP tank to feed only the house appliances thus saving the LP in the large tank to fuel the generator only.

Hope this helps.

If it uses liquid instead of gas you could get some forklift tanks. If near a major city there would even be a propane delivery co that serves the forklift customers.
