I have a '95 class A on a '95 Ford F53. The power steering/hydro brake pump reservoir is low. I know it uses power steering fluid, but the existing fluid has a red tint and I suspect the previous owner may have mistakenly added AFT. Two questions: Does anyone know if there was ever a RED power steering fluid? I'm thinking of purging the system and installing new fluid -- any suggestions?
Thanks

I don't know about a 1995 but a 1996 uses Mercon ATF according to Motorcraft. I found that out at Motorcraftservice.com. then going to "owners guides" and putting in info. The oldest owners Manual they show is for the 1996 F53. Mercon is a red fluid.

Jimary, Thanks very much -- I think the 95 and 96 are the same -- I'm going to try to verify.

AMSOIL has a synthetic universal power steering fluid for your application.
this synthetic fluid quieted my noisy power steering pump considerably.
if you cannot drain all of the old fluid out, the amsoil mixed ok with my old fluid.
check AMSOIL.COM.

I was hesitant on using the right fluid on my 95Bounder, so I called Ford RV support, and got the answer right awy. Of course, I've forgotten it by now, but here's the number for Fleetwood tech - thye might know, or they DO know the Ford number 800-322-8216.

nbounder, thanks very much -- I don't know why I didn't think to call them. I just did and within three minutes had the answer -- Mercon. Ford RV support number is 800-444-3311.

I also meant to mention -- they are sending me a printed owner's manual no charge.
