Fantastic high volume automatic fan and a MaxAir covers
Ok, I ordered a new rig and ordered a high volume automatic fantastic fan from the factory that has a thermostat control to auto open. I went to CW to pick up some maxair covers to put on when the rig arrives and the guy tells me that the maxair covers wont work with the automatic fantastic fans due to clearance under the cover. He said that the fantastic lid will hit the underside of the Maxair cover and burn out the raising motor of the fantastic fan. Any truth to this with the maxair II or the bigger maxair fanmate covers. The fanmate says it is made for the fantastic high volume fans, but doesnt state if the auto type version.

My suggestion is that you Google Fantastic Vent and call them. Really "fantastic" people. they will steer you in the right direction for their current models.

Look here Downloads | Fan/Mate Model 850/950
Note: The Fan/Mate rain cover will prevent the fan lid from fully opening. The resulting small reduction in air flow is a
worthwhile trade off to keep your RV interior safe and dry. No damage will occur to your fan lid or lid opening gear
motor. See back page for further information

Well, I have had Maxair covers on three Fantastic Fans for 6 years now and haven't burned out anything yet ...we are fulltimers and use our roof vent fans often. The vent lids do contact the covers on opening, but it doesn't seem to be a big deal, they contact the cover and the lift motor stops... FantasticFan does not approve/recommend use of covers with their fans but we would not be without them.

I just put two Fan Mates on two Automatic Fantastic Fans. The stop switch seems to work on current draw. When the door reaches full open the motor begins to labor and the motor stops. It works the same way when the door hits the Fan Mate. Obviously there is a small reduction in air flow but like the other poster mentioned it's a small trade off to be able to leave for the day and leave the vent open without worrying about rain.

Fantastic Vent about using a cover with their Fantastic Fans they said no problem, the raising motor will contact the cover and stop. It will not burn out the motor. Did that with no trouble.
