I have a 1979 holiday rambler.title was lost and now cant register it because i cant find the vin number on it anywhere.Does anyone have a clue where this might be?

I'd Call H.R. or one of the larger RV sevice centers. they will know.

For Class A:

If it is built on a GM P-30 chassis, then you might get lucky and find it like this:

Dodge - etched into outboard side of right front frame rail above the axle.

Those are chassis VINs. It is entirely possible the coach builder used there own unique VIN. A plate typicaly attached either by the drivers area side wall or by the coach entry door.

Also look in the windshield drivers side tucked way down in there where you can only see it if you are standing on your head over the dash.

You have to have the coach VIN to register in AL, not the chassis VIN.

THe standard location of lower drivers side of the windshield frame was only really adopted in 1981 and that is also the year when they went to the 17 digit VIN as well.
Before that many VINs were 13 digits.

There is only one VIN per vehicle - coach and chassis do not have different VINs. The VIN comes on the unfinished chassis and the coach builder just adds a body.

They may however have two ID numbers. My Navion has the standard VIN in the LLH corner of the windshield and the coach ID is in a panel in the door on the drivers side. LA is only interested in the VIN.

My American Coach also has two numbers - one from Fleetwood called an FIN, and the VIN from the chassis builder. Only the VIN has legal significance.

Prior to the 1981 17 digit standardization, they could have used the VIN, FIN, or in Winnebagos case, serial number off of the certification label. All depended on the people registering the coach. They used the Winnebago serial number in my case on the title/registration. The Dodge chassis VIN is a different number.

Call your local state police auto theft unit. Give them the year and chassis manufacturer and they'll tell you where the public VIN is located. If for some reason the VIN can't be found they will assign one.
