Does anyone have an update(received notice) on the pending recall on the Freightliner chassis with the ZF steering gears with model number 8018?

I'll move your question down to the FL Chassis forum.

I'm still waiting for my official recall letter. I talked to the FL factory back in November and they and ZF were still debating the proper procedure to be published and used by dealers. The prevalent thinking (but that was 30 days ago now) was that most of the potentially affected units would be inspected and Okayed without replacement. Some of the chassis will prove to have ZF8018 units that are OK, based on the ZF component build date stamped on it. Others that are in the suspect time window are probably OK if they haven't failed after 15-20k miles. It's the "probably" that was causing the worry. Once they resolve the probably into certainty we will likely be getting letters telling us what to do.
The FL rep I spoke to said I should have no concern at all with 38k miles on my rig and no symptoms of any steering problem.

We just got a recall letter concerning the steering arm or tie rod arm fastners. Going to have that taken care of next week.
Is that what your talking about?
This is adding to our trip to Florida. Cold, wind and now recalls. Glad they have someone who can fix it in Ocala.

No, I'm pretty sure that's a different one. This one involves the ZF8018 steering gear itself, not the tie rod ends. A few of the ZF8018 units were improperly assembled by the supplier (ZF) but they don't know how many or which units got the defective ones. May have to check all of them to find out.

I just received this reply to an inquiry concerning the ZF8018 steering recall.
Hello Mr. Brinck,
At this point, the first phase of Recall FL509 of certain ZF steering
gears has just been released (on 1/11/08). The notices to affected
owners will be mailed this week.
If your vehicle is part of this first phase, you will be receiving a
notice shortly.
Thank you for writing and have a good evening.
