Fridge problem?

We have an 08 Dometic 8cf elec/gas fridge in our MH and we are not sure if we have a problem or if it's just the 110 degree temps we have been having in Texas. On our current trip the freezer part of the fridge froze water but the ice creme got so soft that it it expanded and popped the lid off the container. We bought a refrigerator thermometer and when we are parked it reads about 41-44 but has gotten up to 60 when traveling. However even when parked the ice creme is still a little too soft. I wonder if when the sun is shinning on the fridge side and it's extremely hot the fridge just can't keep the temps low enough. We have run it on both gas and generator but doesn't seem to make any difference.

What should the fridge temp be? Is there a way to check it the fridge is cooling properly in addition to using a thermometer?

Suggestions/comments appreciated.

You should have 35 to 38 degF in the frig and 0 degF in the freezer. If you do not have fans in the out side and inside ther frig box, you need them...they will help. You can get a RV fan powered by pair of D cells for inside the frig. Ourside I like the 4" 12 volt muffin or computer fans.

Check out this thread that has been running for a few days. I bought one of these fans but haven't installed it yet. Some folks have had good results.

Here is a thread that will explain how to get heat out from in back of fridge vent area.
You need the fans in the hot temps your experiencing.
