My clamp meter can record max-min amps and or voltage, no need to stare at it. I would think most meters have that capability now. Did you post the make and model number of the heat pump, I didn't see it?

The (most likely) reason for A/C Breaker tripping is 1) dirty coils, causing high head pressures; 2) next is failure of the fan/ blower/ motors, which can be simple electrical (capacitors failed or changed value) or windings shorting when hot, or bushing/ bearing dragging causing extra motor load and low speed/ or motor seizing). Easiest/ cheapest for troubleshooting is 1) visual inspection of/ changing of capacitor/s, 2) to include checking motor for binding by spinning by hand, and if no improvement, followed by coil cleaning. Any of above can include issues of insect or rodent nests.
