I have narrowed my next MH to the Newmar 4018 which claims it has a height of 12'10" .I am designing my detached garage that will house the Newmar .. I am looking for input on the door height and the internal ceiling height .. All suggestions are welcome .. Thank you Glenn

The short answer to your question is that you want a 14' door. The ceiling height needs to be another 2 foot taller. This allows enough room for mounting typical garage doors. Also look into jack-shaft garage door openers. These allow the door motor to be mounted near the door opening. Allow enough space behind your RV so that you can leave your tow bar attached and that the garage door clears the back of the RV when it goes up and down. This adds another 4 or 5 feet.

Also be sure to make the garage long enough to handle future RV upgrades in length.

Another thing to consider is making the garage wide enough so that you can open your slide-outs while the coach is still in the garage. Be sure to leave a walk space when the slides are out. This helps with packing for trips.

Be sure to have a 50A power service receptacle installed also.

Build it for your next coach or the coach of the next property owner. In other words make it able to accommodate a 45' coach, with room to spare. Build it once. No one ever complained they built too big.

Built mine 30' X 50' with a 16' door for RV, that's enough room to open up slides and awnings to dry out, plus 1 tow car, 2 tractors, car dolly and 2 ATV's. Build bigger than you need you will never regret.

I built mine with a 14X14 roll up door. Garage is 24X44. If I had to do it today I'd make it at least 24 wide by 52 long. Coaches have gotten longer since I built mine.

Forgot to add: The walls are 14' high. I didn't want it to look like a 2 story building. Checked with the door people to see if the 14' roll up door will fit with the 14'walls. Worked out good.

I built my garage 30 X 50 with 16 foot high sides, the doors are 14 X 14 and 10 X 10. I wish I had built the garage out to 40 feet wide. I have sectional doors, so I get the full 14 feet high opening and the actuators are https://www.liftmaster.com/for-homes...ies/model-8500. These are great because they take up no space above the door.

I made the mistake of not building my barn long enough! We have to remove the tow bar so we can walk behind the rv. Give yourself more room than you need!

There's no such thing as too big, only too small. Given infinite lot size, a pull through with doors on each end would be nice. Also, make it long enough to park with the toad attached so that you can pull right in after a long trip. While we're at it, a sewer drain and fresh water would be nice too. We can dream, right?

I have 17 foot rafters and a 14 x 14 door, plus a utility door, NO WINDOWS. I have no problems and no peeping toms.

I am currently contemplating building a garage on some property we bought. Considering 36' X 64' which will provide enough room for our current RV + a 20X36' shop behind it. I would build a `16' high building so I could build storage space above the shop for wood etc. It would also be high enough for me to get on top of the coach. 36' wide would provide for a 14' door plus a second door for access to shop.

Mine is in process by Morton. I was excited that we went 30x50x16 with a single 14x20 door until they did the grading. Now, looking at the new 5th wheel, I wish I would have made it bigger!

It is big enough to fit the RV, but I'm sure I will fill it up with other stuff!

To answer your question.... I would go with a 14' tall door and a 16' tall wall height.
