Gas versus Diesel

One thing to remember. In a DP when you are driving, the noise (engine) is in the back. When you sleep, the noise ( generator) is in the front. In other words, the noise is always at the opposite end of the coach from where you are. In a gasser, you are always on top of the noise.

Bought my first RV last fall and had to deal with the same question. What resonated with me was what Greatscot said above. That and the ride on airbags felt better - to me. Good luck and I agree with what many have said - you can't go wrong with making decisions that fit you best.

It all comes down to what you want and can afford. We liked the quieter ride and more power of the diesel. Plus in the club we belonged to there were 12 motorhomes, one was a Prevost, one was a Foretravel (my parents) and 6 were Newmars. We liked their quality and could afford the DP so we got it.

What kind of camping, full time, snow bird, just some weekends? How much do you want to spend? How big of a unit do you want? Do you want to tow something? Lots of different questions will help answer your question.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is CCC. We are planning to go full time in a year or two. In trying to decide between the two I see huge CCC for the DP but numbers that are almost half for gas. Has CCC been an issue for any of the gas fulltimers?

What is CCC? Can someone help me out? Might just be me that is unfamiliar with this acronym. Capital Carrying Cost? ie cost to finance?

CCC is one of a number of industry formulas to compute the cargo capacity of a coach. You will also see NCC. They are arrived at in different ways.

CCC takes the weight of a "representative" coach with full drive train fluids, full fresh water tank and empty holding tanks. I believe it includes full LP tank and full fuel tank. It adds 164 pounds for each "sleeping position" subtract that number from the GVWR of the coach in question and you have the approx theoretical cargo capacity. NCC uses a somewhat different formula.

It's been awhile since I used this so I may not have it exact.

CCC= Cargo Carrying Capacity, or how much stuff can you haul, including people, clothes, food, pots and pans, water, sewage, etc.
