Hi all: Hope you're enjoying your summer out there. Hoping some of you road veterans can point us in the right direction. Only been out here about 18 months and just beginning to venture further from home area. We have a gas coach, a 36D Southwind, at 36.5 feet, and tow a Honda Fit. We have been looking for a resource for GASoline stops. I've been very surprised not to have found a website, or book out there. "Next Exit" is great at telling what all is at exits, but not whether or not a large RV with a towed can get in and out easily, or are welcome. We know the standards like TA, Flying J...but these are on the interstate...and we like to hit those state roads more. There are TONS of gas stations, but not all can be gotten in and out of without stress on driver, other customers and the coach.

Looking for any leads, websites, books, etc...... Appreciate it....hope all
your roads are smooth and dry.

If you have Street & Trips 2010 try downloading this POI file. It has a lot of fuel stations on the map that will accomodate an RV and you can even navigate to them using the S&T.

At 36 feet (even without the toad) I'd say that the Truck Plaza's (Flying J etc) are about the only fueling spots that you can count on having the maneuver room you are looking for..

To be sure there are other regular stations around that can also accommodate you but most of them are going to be pretty darn close to the interstates too..
or at least close to MAJOR intersections along the old US Highways.

The fewer and fewer anomalies to this pattern are becoming fewer and fewer.

Oh and not to hijack the thread but does anyone have a good source for US Highway road maps?

Thanks DriVEr, checking it out on Amazon now....can't see much...is it aimed the "GPS" crowd primarly? We don't intend to GPS. May head over to B&N tomorrow and see if they have it in stock to look at closer.

Thanks also InPursuit. We are familiar with the large travel plaza's on the interstates, but figured by now, some enterprising RV'er would have started something with an "off the freeway" list on some of the major bad roads, sort of like RV Park Review...we don't leave home without that one. I might have an answer for you though...try the state atlas books from DeLorne. They are large, easy to read, inexpensive, and show ALL the state travel roads. They also mark camping sites, fishing spots, areas of interest and milage. Plus, most of them have a list of handy phone numbers like the "where construction" and road closure hotlines. We used them almost exclusively and have never hit a road we couldn't take.
