everyone has helped out with my genny so far, so i have i more dumb question.

generac 6600 propane genny loosing oil out of breather by carb entrance and air filter. just barely getting air filter wet down low.

generator runs great, run a comp test and 150psi on both cylinders, plugs look new with no oil specks. generator starst quick and easy and runs really good.

i was gonna replace the breather assembly but when quoted 180.00 just for the box and no gasket or shipping, i decided to look on net for help but no luck so far.

anyone had this problem or feel i may be headed in the right direction, or should i just take to a local shop thats hopefully trust worthy.

can the breather be adjusted in any way, or maybe carboned up.

thanks again for the great advice on here.

howard

ps its not gushing oil, just an annoying drip.

if i had this problem, i would cut the breather hose, plug it at the air cleaner, and rout the hose under the genny to drain into a catch bottle similar to a small soda container so you can drain it occasionally.

The most common problem that causes that oil to show up is a small rubber breather hose that runs from the engine block to the air filter plug. This hose either cracks over time and leaks or it gets heat distorted and will not fit tight into the air cleaner box. The other problem is that if someone has removed that air cleaner box and pulled that hose out of the hole then it may not be put back in correctly. It takes a lot of patience to put that hose in correctly especially if the heat has distorted it.
