Generator hour meter

I recently purchased a motorhome and I'm having a problem with the hour meter for my generator. When the generator is not running the hour meter is on and shows the hours. When I start the generator the meter goes off and it does not record time running. Anyone ever run in to this? Thanks!

The problem may be the ground wire to the hour meter. If it is wired to the 12v charge wire from the genset you will get that type situation. Check the negative hm wire.
